Day 67 - Golspie evening, low tide.

Title – Golspie evening, low tide.
Price: £80.00 (includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Oil on board
Size: 20cm x 15cm (approx)

SOLD

After supper in the chip shop last night with my mum, dad, daughter and my aunty from Ireland the sky was turning a really pretty colour so I decided to go behind the chip shop and paint the sea at low tide. I really love the evening (and early morning) skies here especially when the tide is out showing all the seaweed on the beach. I will try to do another of the sea while I am here although time is running out! My brother took my aunt back to the airport this morning and I am taking my daughter back to the airport this afternoon so hope to do a painting on the way home too! I would like to have had time to do some sketches in my own sketchbooks but it looks like there won’t be time. Haven’t even had time to see my friend who lives here in the village here yet. OH for more time…

This is a little bit of the wayside on the way across the Struie, the lovely colours are what caught my eye but as usual, having started in the dull scotch mist the sun then came out and changed all the colours! Had a very traditional Golden wedding party for my parents with the Sutherland Schools pipe band there playing all the Scottish favourites! /

 So here is the other painting I did yesterday, I literally turned my chair around from painting the loch and saw this lonesome tree on the side of the hill with (the only) bits of blue sky around! Couldn’t resist it so I started painting again. Once I have done this for today I am going off painting again on the way to Inverness to collect my daughter from the airport.

Title: Mini Mares.
Price: £45.00 (includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Pencil
Size: 5cm x 12.5cm

Driven all the way up to the North of Scotland today! Quite a long drive but at least I can get the internet with this dongle thing! Wasn't sure if I would be able to get it or not. Whew. This is a little drawing I have done of some Andalucian mares high up in the Pyrenneas (spelt wrongly no doubt!), it's a little less detailed than I normally do but I thought it worked.

After today for about a week I will be relying on a dongle and laptop so please bare with me if I don't get here - I can assure you I will still post the same number of pics even if it means doing 2 on one day if the internet is dodgy!

Price: £70.00 (includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Pencil on heavyweight cartridge paper
Size: 12.5cm x 16cm

Back to the safety zone of pencil drawings today! This Lusitano 3 year old was also one of the stars of my Boys will be Boys drawing. He was fantastic to watch, so exuberant and energetic and a bit of a top man! He enjoyed play fighting with a number of other colts who were in the same area. This was when I went to Portugal a couple of years ago and visited a really great stud of Lusitano horses.

Day 58 - Coloured Foal.

Title: Coloured Foal.
Price: £80.00 (includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Oil on board
Size: 25cm x 20cm (size of board as shown)

Here is the painting I did with the aim of trying out brighter colours! I really wanted the foal to stand out and look like he was in bright sunshine. This little chap I found on Bodmin Moor with what seemed like hundreds of mares and foals. I deliberately kept the background very plain to bring the foal forward. The size quoted is the size of the board, purchaser may want to cut it down to eliminate the unpainted board to 21cm x 18cm approx. (I can do this if required)

Day 57 - Donkey head study

Title: Donkey Head Study.
Price: SOLD(includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Oil on board
Size: 25cm x 20cm (size of board)

I have been playing with different things today with oils. This painting I wanted to show textures, the very fluffy forehead, the shorter hair on the lower half of the nose and the skin around the muzzle area. Done another picture today as I got up nice and early which I concentrated on colours without getting hung up on anatomy... It will be here another day!

Day 56 - 2 horses in barn.

Title: 2 horses in barn.
Price: £60.00 (includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Oil on board
Size: 20cm x 15cm

I have been painting from life today. These two horses were tied up in the barn for a group of us to paint or draw. I had to try to finish it off at home tonight and photograph it whilst wet. It's a bit shiny and not quite true to colour as I cannot get the light right on it. It was a really difficult picture to paint as the horses wouldn't stand still for long and nobody was holding them. It's a bit dull in colour because it was a really dismal damp grey day and with them being in the barn too, it made it even harder to paint. Enjoyed the company and the day out though. Did a different horse in the afternoon and that turned out a complete disaster!

Title: Scottish Estuary in winter.
Price: £75.00 (includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Oil on board
Size: 20cm x 15cm

I rather like doing snowy, cold wintery scenes as you might have gathered by now. This is the Loch Fleet Estuary near Golspie in Sutherland, North Scotland in December. I love the colours in these winter scenes.

Day 53 - Tiny mini Doma Vaquera

Title: Tiny Mini Doma Vaquera.
Price: £35.00 (includes postage within UK, for other destinations please contact me)
Medium: Pencil
Size: 7cm x 7cm

I think this is the smallest picture on the blog so far... a tiny mini Doma vaquera drawing. It is only 7cm squared ... a very dainty little piece! I promise I will do some other horse subjects rather than just doma vaquera ones but I just love them! //

Day 52 - Which way do we go now?

Title: Which way do we go now?
Price: £60.00
Medium: Oil on board
Size: 25cm x 10cm

SOLD

Here's another one I have been playing with in the studio. I have tried to keep it quite loose, still managed a little fiddle with a small brush though! I thought that as all the sheep were looking lost and the front one didn't seem to know where to go that I would title it "which way do we go now?" I was going to simply call it Sheep in snow in oils. They are the same bunch of sheep from up in Yorkshire that I did the pencil drawing off a short while back.
