Romeria del Rocio

I have spent quite a lot of time doing downloading images and here is one that I found of a horse leaping onto the ferry. I haven't seen most of my photos myself yet as there are just so many. Have managed to make a start on sorting them out today though.

The trials and tribulations of travelling! / Las pruebas y tribulaciones de viajar!

Well now, where to start about yesterday's journey! I set off with an extra 2 hours to spare from where I was staying to get to Sevilla airport, got the sat nav set up and just about had enough fuel in the car to get me there. The deal with the hire car is that you pay for a full tank then take it back as empty as possible. On the way to the airport I couldn't remember packing my own car keys into the bags so decided I must take a look for them once I got to the airport. Well for the first time during that week the sat nav decided not to take me where I wanted to go but to take me to the helipad instead for some reason. Then the fuel guage went from 30km left in tank to 0km in a split second and then started to beep at me. I was totally lost and worried that the car would run out of fuel! Eventually found a fuel station where I put 5 euros in the tank and went back to the good old days of asking someone the way instead of using the sat nav. Eventually found the airport and then discovered that my bags were going to be overweight. By this time I had used up the 2 spare hours I had left myself and was starting to worry slightly that I wouldn't get onto the plane in time! I unpacked my cases in the airport throwing away anything that didn't need to come back like shampoo's etc whilst also trying to find my car key. Didn't find the key so was even more worried. During this time I was sweating like goodness knows what as I had loads of clothes on to save weight in the luggage and it was 38 degrees in the airport. Finally got the bags to a decent weight, got myself through the bag drop and security checks still worrying about my key! At Bristol airport after collecting my suitcase I had the whole lot out on the floor trying to find that key (it was in an obscure pocket that I had missed - I have no idea why I put it there but that's life!). Driving home I saw this car driving at me on the road and it started to flash it's lights at me, I didn't understand why he was on my side of the road and flashing at me as well - until I realised suddenly that it was ME on the wrong side of the road (my brain was still in Spain!) Kept going to the gear stick on the wrong side and have even still been doing that today as well.

Alvaro Domecq's

Another great day but another day closer to coming back to England. Went to Alvaro Domecq’s place where I took so many pictures I lost count! Did a couple of pochade paintings, one of the countryside and one of a prickly pear surrounded by yellow and pink and mauve flowers. Ate my lunch there (tortilla, napolitana chocolate, banana and horchata). Drove back and for the first time this holiday went down and sunbathed on the beach for an hour! Went to the bar and had some very tasty snails
and some chicken with chips. All these pictures were taken at Alvaro Domecq's place. One of my favourite horses was the white grey with the long mane, he was just beautiful.

Bodega Terry and Cadiz

Oh god this is going so quickly and I don’t want to go home! Up at about 8am and got ready to go to El Puerto de Santa Maria. Got there and parked the car near Bodega Terry. The whole tour was in Spanish but it made me concentrate! Interesting with the different smells in the vats where the barrels are kept. Took a few pics of barrels etc. Then the horses came out, a single horse being ridden by a pretty girl. and a carriage with a black guy driving it. That horse had tumours on his tail though. It was really really windy and it was a bit difficult for the horse to do levade but she did it for me none the less so I could take pictures. Left there and went to the ferry. It’s not the little ferry that we went on before but a bigger newer catamaran style boat. Cost 2.10 euros each way – dead cheap! Great cos there were lots of big waves and it was swaying around alot. Half an hour later I was in Cadiz, a lovely city in my opinion. So easy to get around it too as it’s not too big. Went into the cathedral (twice) once for a look around and once to draw, only got charged once though. Then went on the hunt for bookshops. Couldn’t find the one that I went to before but found another and bought a book on Sorolla and a magazine on horses. Got the ferry back to El Puerto de Santa Maria and collected the car and drove back to Sanlucar. Walked round to the supermarket for more horchata and juice. Got pics onto the computer and sorted them for the blog.
