I started this stag a while ago but I wasn’t happy with the colour of the sky I had done, first I made it too light, then much too dark so waited until it had dried out completely and made it this colour which I am now happy with. I wanted this to be a really striking picture with the orange colours in the stag and the grasses. I also wanted to keep it relativelly simple which I think I have achieved. Probably going to be mostly pencil drawings up to the end of the 100 days now as it’s easier whilst manning the exhibition to do pencils rather than oils. I finished this one this morning before I opened – I got up extra early to get it sorted out before opening time!

I took this as a photograph quite some time back and the great thing about this 100 days blog is that I am slowly getting through the pictures that I have wanted to draw for ages. It is also handy to see if the picture will work as a drawing and if I were to make a larger version where I would have to make any adjustments. I am still glad that the 100 days is nearing it’s close though as I have commissions coming out of my ears and need to start some of these larger pictures that I want to do!! It’s all go – no rest for the wicked they say. L

For the English Thoroughbred lovers out there… this guy’s pet name is Elvis and I saw him on the gallops at Newmarket one day. I managed to get a pic of him after he’d been on the gallops. He shows the definate Arab influence with his dished face, I really liked him and wanted to draw him for quite a while. Finally got round to it!

After looking at my zebra (horse gone wrong) painting I thought I would take a look at exactly how zebra stripes work around the body etc. I got out my disc of photos of zebras at Longleat safari park and whilst looking for zebras I found this picture of a pair of giraffes looking really sweet and I thought – yeah why not do them for the blog! Hence the longnecks today :D

This is a lovely collie called "Lassina Love and Dreams" (my thanks to Sheila Payne for sending in her beautiful photo for me to use for a blog post). We used to have a tri-coloured Rough Collie when I was a child and his “posh” name was “Naughgattuck Linden Lee” (probably spelt the first bit wrong as I can’t remember but it was said as I have spelt it!) His pet name was Dileas (pronounced Gee-lass) which is Scottish Gaelic for Faithful.

These two are the stars of the drawing “Boys will be boys” and I really enjoyed watching them play fighting. I think it will probably be a dog tomorrow…. (but I am a little prone to changing my mind!).

It’s been another busy day for my exhibition. I sold 2 of my blog pictures (days 20 & 59) and another original pencil drawing, a photograph of Scotland to a couple from the USA and a few other bits and bobs. Met some really interesting people today including a chap who helped set up the British Caspian Breed society (I used to work with Caspians a long time ago). I also had 2 horses visit me (they enjoyed the exhibition very much as I stood outside and petted them whilst the owners went in and had a look around!) Photograph above!

Ha sido un día ajetreado para mi exposición. He vendido dos de mis fotos blog (días 20 y 59) y otro dibujo a lápiz original, una fotografía de Escocia a un par de los EE.UU. y algunos otros pedacitos y sacudidas. Se reunió con algunos de hoy la gente realmente interesantes, entre ellos un muchacho que ayudó a crear la sociedad británica Caspio Raza (que solía trabajar con Caspians hace mucho tiempo). También tenía dos caballos visitarme (que disfrutó de la exposición mucho mientras yo estaba fuera y les acarició mientras que los propietarios entró y tenía una mirada alrededor!) Fotografía de arriba!

This is a pair (they were like identical twins!) of Pura Raza Español Yeguas (Andalucian mares). I saw these at a horse show in Andalucia a couple of years ago and they were having such a lovely time scratching that they didn’t even notice me taking pictures!

A little fuzzy foal that I found on Dartmoor one day. I don’t believe it is a pure bred Dartmoor pony as there are many part breds and shetland type crosses there but this little chap was another one of those friendly sorts who just had to come and say hello! Ok so I must make it quite clear from the outset that this was not a “serious” painting! I was painting a grey horse from life at the weekend and failing dismally and one of my friends said – it would be better as a zebra and so……. with no idea of where a zebra’s stripes go I just started adding some dark lines! When I knew the picture wasn’t working as a horse I thought I would just have a bit of fun to cheer up the afternoon by doing this!! So please, don’t make comments about how the stripes are in the wrong places or the conformation is wrong, this is just a bit of FUN!!!! :D It also shows that it is more fun to not be too precious about paintings or getting upset when they go wrong.

This is one I did in Spain of the gardens at the Royal Palace in Sevilla.
